Strength in strength, this pioneer show for Vietnam¡¯s manufacturing industry grew steadily from 363 exhibiting companies and 7035 trade visitors to 434 and 8728 respectively. Last year, an overwhelming demand far exceeded a sold out floor space. 2008 continues to extend its reach, more intensively, to the Southern parts of Vietnam around Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Thuan, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Ba Ria-Yung Tau, Binh Phuoc, Mekon Delta, Tai Ninh, Long An, Dong Thap, Vinh Long, Can Tho and Tra Vinh.

Ho Chi Minh City ¨CMoving Ahead in 2008
 
Ho Chi Minh City¡¯s efforts to grow its GDP to 12.5% witnessed priority developments in hi-tech industrial parks and the export processing zone.
 
TECO Group, is entering into a joint venture with SaigonTel to invest $1 billion in building a software center in the new Thu Thiem urban area in Ho Chi Minh City. The center is expected to house 100 IT companies from Taipei.

Japan 's Nidec Group plans to invest $1 billion in ten high technology plants in the Saigon High Tech Park (SHTP) located in Ho Chi Minh City (HCM) by 2010. Over the last decade, Nidec Group invested nearly $100 million in factories in the Tan Thuan Export Processing Zone.

The Socio-Economic Strategy till 2010 - Sectors on National Industrial Development
Chemical-fertilizer sector, electronic-informatics sector, mechanical engineering sector, exploration and processing of minerals, steel, coal, power, and oil and gas.

 
"The Mechanical Engineering sector targets to satisfy 40% local demand, reach 60-70% local-content-requirement in mechanical vehicles, engine and equipments." and "to focus on manufacture of spare parts for automobile and motorcycle, manufacture and assemble construction equipment, technical equipment for marine transportation and marine engines, develop ship-building and ship-repairing industry, step up manufacture of spare parts for agricultural and forest machinery, industrial equipment for cement and sugar production."
 
"Hi-Tech industry, especially the information technology, telecommunication, electronics, and automation should develop at a higher pace."
